Hello, Adam My partner and I recently purchased a white German Shepherd. Shes 12 weeks old today and a significant selection. Browse here at [http://www.amazon.com/Champagne-Tempered-Drop-proof-Protector-Coverage/dp/B00PRJTV86/ref=sr_1_6?s=wirelessie=UTF8qid=1425491865sr=1-6 500 Service Unavailable Error] to compare the reason for this idea. Often she may be therefore sweet, but other times she is actually quite harsh. Well, I dont know if harsh may be the right word, nevertheless when I tell her No she just gets more agitated and runs at me with her teeth bared. I got a small pinch collar since she is a dog but Ive a question as to how it will fit. When I get 2 prongs out its warm against her throat and I bother about it being too small. It kind of slides down her neck a bit and it circles around her neck and she constantly scratches at it and does not stay-put, when I only simply take 1 prong out. Which is the best fit? Shes really a number and I think the pinch collar is an excellent instrument, but I want to be sure it fits right so as not to cause her any discomfort. You say in the book that you should be able to go fifty per cent of a finger in there, but I suppose I am just confused as to how you should determine the match. Please help I am afraid my time is running out to get her to start obeying me. She doesnt see me whilst the Alpha puppy quite yet and it is very frustrating to be with her for long intervals. When I say Duchess, come she only comes when she feels like it. With the touch collar, what is the best way to be sure she comes every time I call her? I do not want to get around yanking on her behalf neck, but in the sam-e time she needs to respect me. Any methods you can provide me o-n making sure she sees me whilst the employer would-be very useful Thanks, Cassidy Beloved Cassidy When I check with half a finger space regarding the proper fitting of the pinch collar, what I mean is - If the average persons hand is inch wide, then there must be aproximately inch of area between the end of the prong and the skin of the dogs throat. So, why do not I simply say, 1/4 inch of space? Because it is more straightforward to judge by sticking your hand under the prong than it is to break out your old high school ruler. Lots of you newsletter readers are undoubtedly wondering why I would recommend a touch collar for a dog. And my answer is I am not. At least perhaps not for many puppies. But there are some puppies who will not answer a simple diversion or verbal, No. If theyre not fixed with this behavior theyll bite and cause puncture wounds on your arms and legs. Therefore, if you have tried one other means of working with dog nipping that Ive discussed in the guide, then youll need to succeed to a small touch collar. Also described in-the book. But arent they too small for a pinch collar? You are probably thinking. The answer is No. They ARE too small for formal obedience training. I.E., Sit, Down, Come, Heel, Stay. [This must begin once you begin to see the adult teeth come in... at aproximately 4-to 5 weeks of age.] But a pet SHOULD be corrected for biting... if you have unearthed that diverting his awareness of a chew toy or yet another task isnt working. Why? Because the mother dog would not allow the puppy to bite her. If the dog attacks her too much, shell turn and bite the puppies throat. In the puppies perspective, THIS HURTS. But it doesnt cause injury. And that is why the puppy prefers not to bite the mother dog any longer. As it does not feel great. This is actually the same reason that its okay to correct a puppy for excessively hard biting with the pinch collar. The mama dog is replicated by the pinch collar. Believe me on this I have seen 11 week-old Rottweiler puppies and 10 week-old Jack Russell Terrier puppies whod bitten through literally their owners fingers with their needle-like teeth. The owners are nearly in tears with the indisputable fact that they could have to put their dog to sleep. They have tried all the nonsense trash your read in the dog magazines. Stuff like shrieking in a high-pitched voice. Or putting the dog in the cage. Or turning your straight back to the dog. But none of it works on a pet who is intent on biting down as hard as he can on your gentle, human flesh. Getting back o-n course... Just use common sense, If you correct the dog. Simply because your vehicle can accelerate as much as 140mph does not mean that you should or need to get that fast. The same goes for that pinch collar. If youre an adult and you may use reason and common sense, then you should really be in a position to tailor the depth of your correction to correctly match your dogs temperament. How do you do that? You test. Then next you must straight away offer him your hand again, if you correct the pet for biting. If he straight away hits you again... then you now understand that your correction wasnt important. Thats all for now, people Adam.
